Community and Second Life
There is a lot that can be done in a virtual setting!
This is a new section, inspired by recent experiences within Second Life and also the last 2 years of experimenting in online collaboration:organising meetings and workshops in a virtual setting and learning about the peer-to-peer paradigm we are all living into.
Second Life adds the visual dimension.
What is Second Life?
Second Life is a 3D Virtual World. There are now over 3 million 'inhabitants'. People gather, chat, explore, dance, take part in adventure sports, create, and even trade there. It has its own currency which has even created its first dollar millionaire. Joining is free and you can participate in many things and do much without spending any real money.

How to show up!
Once you are 'in', (i.e you have registered for a free account with www.secondlife.com, have downloaded the application and logged on, and you have dressed your avatar and hung out in the orientaion area to get the hang of the main things to do such as walking around, flying) just search for the group 'PoweringACarnivalofChange. You simply right-click on your avatar, then when you see the pie come up you select the pie slice that says 'Groups'. Then you can see and manage the groups you are part of and search for and join new groups.
It's free to join our group, and you can then send and receive group messages to all who are online, and receive group notices offline.
So if you show up at 5pm GMT in order to find out where everyone is, just send a message to this group and whoever is online from the group and welcome you to where the gathering is taking place.
Alternatively...
Let us know you want to join and we can send you an invitation to join this group to your avatar (just tell us then name of the avatar) and then we can send you a message once you enter Second Life so that we can teleport you to wherever the group is gathering for that session.
Seeing and hearing
We will be experimenting with combining the Second Life AND the voice channel (with SKYPE) in some session so you will be able to meet others in these kind of sessions using both media.
Basically in plain English it means you can see your avatar walking around, and you can communicate via chat with other avatars and in private instant messages, and you also get to hear and speak with them. It's really a whole new experience and difficult to describe so the best way is to try it. Join us at these early stages of exploration.
